Zara is a normal person, not your suped up kick-butt snark girl. She's mildly asthmatic and just trying to get through life running her own diner in a town where she's shunned as the "town crazy".

The day aliens came down in small numbers to help Earth avert a worldwide crisis, Zara started having horrific nightmares that left her screaming. Outside.

Her love story is sweet and not explicit. Her journey from frightened and slightly demoralized waitress to a truly strong woman is interesting and logical.

The Romance is really good. The SF is good, reminiscent of V, and not at all "hard" or high tech. For me the SF was a little predictable, but I read lots and lots of SF, and that still did not take away from the fun of reading this. It's a contemporary science fiction romance. I liked this book enough to be looking for the sequal.
