Wow, wow, wow. I adored this installment of the Mercy series, and it is definitely one of my favorites. This book was a bit of a change from the rest of the series though. Usually Mercy's adventures are action driven with a lot of humor, wit, danger, and a sprinkle of romance to tease readers. With this book though romance definitely took the front seat in terms of plot with action/plot taking a more secondary role. Either way though it was fantastic.
The plot combined my 2 favorite elements in the Mercy universe - Werewolves and the Fae. Werewolf politics are amazingly structured, confusing, and strict. Every peek we get into the complexities of dominance, gender issues, and the magic behind their ties is so detailed, insightful, and engaging. The Fae continue to be the more intriguing and mystifying species that I have come across in any urban fantasy series.
The character development is wonderful as well. Samuel has been on the back burner a bit since Mercy became Adam's mate and getting a peek into his very old mind and the strife he is dealing with was great. Although discovering just what a teddy bear Adam can be, and his intense and unconditional love for Mercy was beautiful. Mercy herself grew a great deal in this book as well. She has come to accept and welcome the pack, wants to belong, wants to be involved, all while retaining her independence and unique qualities. I only wish we could have seen her as a coyote more this book. Some of my favorite secondary characters like Zee, Warren, and Ben made appearances this time around and any chance to have them in a scene is totally welcomed.
Crazily enough I cannot think of a bad thing to say about this book. Others have thought negatively on the length of the challenge scene which I greatly enjoyed as it revealed so much more about hierarchy in packs, or Mercy's ability to always get out of her insane problems with little consequence (although the climax of Iron Kissed disproves this greatly I think). Yes, the solutions through out these books tend to be a bit convenient but are well thought through, developed, and make sense.
All in all, this is the best urban fantasy series out there, and to me all others are weighted against it. I can't wait for the next anything Brigg's puts out! Especially the 3rd installment in the Alpha and Omega series!

Briggs comes up with another solid addition to a great series as Mercy continues to feel her way around her new role as the mate of the werewolf alpha Adam. Trouble comes in the form of her good friend Samuel attempting suicide, and an attempt made on her life by the fae. When Phin, a friend of hers who is part fae, disappears, Mercy tries to find out where is is and why the fae seem to be after a book that he has asked her to keep for him for awhile. Briggs as usual entertains us with a rousing story, and engages us with the deepening relationship between Adam and Mercy, as well as the conflicts within the pack. I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Loved this book. I had it on my wish list, but didn't want to wait forever to get it....now I'll reread the series in order. lol

I would have loved to savour this book and make it last and last reading a page or two at a time to enjoy it for days, but that was impossible. From the day I began reading it I was lost in the world that surrounds Mercy Thompson and was so caught up in it that hours and hundreds of pages had passed before I realized it. This is one of the best series I have read, I'm an avid reader and mostly in this genre and I'm hooked on the Mercy Thompson series. Bring on River Marked!!
In this book Mercy finds herself back in hot water with the fae, dealing with Samuel drama, and falling deeper in love with her very own Alpha- Adam (yum). I'll begin with the fae, that's one scary bunch! I love the Zee described without his glamour. I love that it's not syrupy sweet but, still sincere and HOT at times. Their date that started off bad and went worse was still so perfect in it's Mercy and Adam way. Finally the last scene in the book (relax I won't give it away) was so intense. WOW! Who would want a guy who felt like that about you?? I was so happy for Mercy that she finally got to that point!

I really enjoy this series. Mercy is such a fun character, strong and independent, yet she has her moments of weakness as well. She's flawed and likable. Mercy gets to go through another exciting journey on this book....

I thought that this was one of the better Mercy Thompson books in the series. It was quick paced and didn't disappoint. I hope there is another one soon. Would definitely recommend to others to read if they like werewolves, vampires, faes, witches, etc.

This book was incredible. The story line was great and kept you just wanting more. In this installment Mercy has to deal with the one of the fae trying to hunt her, Samuel being controlled by his "wolf" and her new relationship with Adam. If you enjoyed the other books in this series then this one will definitly not dissapoint.

I have missed Mercy Thompson. And yes, Mercy seems to bring trouble with her no matter what she does. Not all goods deeds are simple, and sometimes, trouble just finds you no matter what. This story is less complicated than previous ones, and if you haven't read them all, you might not understand the path of the Fae book and why Mercy has it to begin with. And Adam and Mercy's relationship becomes closer and her place in the pack is complete. So start at the beginning. You will love these characters as much as i do, each one has a story, and i find myself attached to all of them. My only wish is that Briggs wrote faster, i can hardly wait for the next one!

I love Patricia Briggs, I love the Mercy Thompson series and I loved this book. It is well written, action packed, and romantic. Everything a PNR should be. And yes, I consider this series PNR nor UF. The romance between Mercy and Adam is, for me, the focus of the books. As well as developing romances between other characters. Loved t.
Another wonderful installment in the Mercy Thompson saga. I really enjoyed getting to know more about pack bonds and seeing the additional Samuel driven plot lines. For those of you who are fans of this series, Ms. Briggs has done it again. If you haven't tried these books out yet, you definitely, definitely have to! A fantastic read!
There are few better than Briggs when it comes to good writing and good story telling. Love this series!
I loved this book! It held my interest all the way through. Just a perfect balance of action, romance, treachery, mystery and lots more. I think this is one of the best if not the best in this series!
I enjoyed Silver Borne as I enjoy all of the Mercy Thompson books. I like Patricia Briggs writing, characters and humor.
Mercy's life just keeps getting more and more complex and Briggs' writing gets better and better! This one is NO exception! Loved it from the first page to the final one!
#5 Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson paranormal mystery set in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State. Mercy is a coyote shapeshifter whose mate is the Alpha werewolf of the local pack. Not everyone in Adam's pack is happy about Mercy, a non-wolf, being mated to their leader, as she discovers when one or more of them get inside her head and attempt to influence her behavior while she and Adam are out on a date.
Mercy hadn't realized that the pack could have that much influence, and it takes her awhile to figure out what had happened--but then, she's got other problems, including her roommate Sam 'going wolf' after a botched suicide attempt and a missing friend, owner of a bookstore who left a strange looking book with her before he disappeared--only to have some very powerful fae looking for the book and for Phin. Another enjoyable visit with Mercy, Adam, and the gang as Mercy continues to feel her way around trying to make her life situation work within pack laws.

These books just get better and better. Patricia Briggs doles out little tidbits of everyone's lives to make the waiting worthwhile. You get some new information on Zee, Samuel and even Adam. I really like the way Ms. Briggs weaves elements of previous stories in so you know whose who and what happened in just a few sentences. With series books published so far apart, it's often difficult to remember specifics. I believe the last installment had vampires; this one, the Fae. Mercy is an amazing character who just takes hit after hit until she's finally had enough and strikes back. I enjoyed the multi-layered storyline: multiple kidnappings, Mary Jo's betrayal, the werewolf challenge, Adam's injuries and Sylvia's defection. So much going on but nothing lost in the hoopla. Wonderfully written and even Samuel gets a happy ending.
Really enjoyed reading more about Mercy and friends.
If there was a button for a 10 star read, this book would be on it.
This book is brand new I got it in the mail and read it the same day couldnt put it down. Just more of the trails and tribulations of Mercy Thompson but they are so interesting I just couldnt wait to see what happened next. The books could end here there were not hints as to what is coming up in the next book if there is one.

She constantly finds herself surrounded by creatures stronger, faster and much more powerful than herself. Trouble constantly comes knocking on her door and this time it's because of a book she borrowed from a Fae. The Fae Mercy borrowed the book from is either missing or dead. Yet, some other faction wants the book bad enough to try and kill Mercy too.
Silver Borne is another excellent addition to this series and I think the most romantic book of the bunch. Mercy is learning more about her mated bond to Adam the pack's Alpha. Mercy loves her independence and the bond between her and the pack scares her. She must come to terms with this bond or it will weaken Adam in the eyes of the pack. This brings to the front all of those pesky pack dynamics, which I just love reading about. Briggs does such a good job of describing wolf behaviors and why they act the way they do. Its such fascinating stuff!
The world building is very descriptive and imaginative especially when it comes to the Fae. This book was a balance between the werewolves and the Fae. We also get to see a much more romantic side to Adam. He is openly courting Mercy as she comes to terms with their mate bond. Also he accepts Mercy just as she is and wouldn't change a thing about her, even though she sometimes scares the hell out of him with all the trouble she manages to get herself into.
Another shocking aspect to this book was the direction Briggs took with Samuel's character. It was very heartbreaking to read, but I am just so very glad how everything works out in the end. I only wish Briggs would write a book and make him the main character! I love this series. If you haven't started it yet, don't wait another minute. You must read this series!

I absolutely love this series! Mercy gets better with each book. Mercy must save Samuel from himself while dealing with pack politics. Her relationship with Adam heats up and her position in the pack creates challenges. Add to that, a loaned item is coveted by a crazed fae. No one is safe. Excellent read! I always feel like a glutton after reading one of the books because I basically inhale it and then regret it. Fortunately, I have the next one in the series ready to go. 4.5 stars!

Silver Borne picks up six months or so after the end of Bone Crossed. Shifter and VW mechanic Mercy is working on her relationship with her boyfriend, Alpha werewolf Adam, and her relationship with her new pack. Thing are going great with Adam, who seems to have marriage on his mind. Unfortunately, not all of the wolves in his pack are happy to have a coyote shifter as part of the family, and someone is using pack bonds to manipulate Mercy's thoughts and emotions -- with some dangerous results. This problem is compounded with the arrival of a powerful Fairy Queen set on killing Mercy to get a magical fae book in Mercy's possession.
As always, Briggs' storytelling is top-notch. Her world-building is only rivaled by her stellar relationship building. I love the development of Adam and Mercy's romantic bond, and was glad to see some resolution to Samuel's sad story in this novel, too. The mysteries laid out in this book were interesting, but not quite as engaging as in previous books of the series. My only negative comment is that I missed Stefan and the other vampires in Silver Borne. But Briggs continues to expertly grow her fae world and carve out a precarious place for Mercy and the werewolves in that mythology.

In one of the books, Mercy never really choose Adam. I think Samuel made the choice for her. Here, she doesn't really have a choice but to move in with Adam because her place burns down. I guess it shows that Mercy goes with flow a lot, but I can see why Adam is so insecure about there relationship.

I'm very selfish with 5 stars, so if you like werewolves and magic, this is a great book. The fifth in a series about Mercy Thompson but there are spin off stories, you don't have to read the other 4 to appreciate what happens, which unfortunately ends at page 342. This is one tale that you don't want to end, why couldn't it go one for at least another 1700 pages?? Patricia Briggs keeps her characters and story line fresh and interesting - you'll have to buy this book unless you borrow it from the library, because it is a keeper, I'll never swap it.
Note to other fans, one plot problem crops up at the end page 336, when Briggs alleges that Mercy can't be found even by Samuel's woman because the Alpha is so disturbed by her disappearance, and the fire destroyed all of Mercy's personal belongings. Come ON. Mercy's tools, her cat, Samuel... there were so many other things and people who Mercy is attached too, that I think it would have been better if Patricia just wrote that the black witch blocked the tracing spell.

I usually love to read the Mercy Thompson books, but this one was disappointing in many ways. The cast of characters are different than the ones in the previous books. (of Lack of cast of characters) The new ones are not that interesting. I have looked over the next 2 books in the series and have decided to stop now while I still have fond memories of the first ones.
Why did I wait so long to read this?! I think I put this off because I thought it was a little slower paced then previous entries (from the book description). Not so.
Mercy and Adam's relationship grows stronger in this one. Mercy had some issues that she is slowing working through. Adam is patient and supportive. They have got to be one of my favorite couples in UF. They compliment each other so well.
I'd like more of Samuel in future books too (and maybe with Ariana too). The fae play a big role in this one. No vampires this time.

Another great book in a very good series.
This book has to deal with Mercy being Adam's mate and his Pack not liking it. There are some within the structure that dont agree with a mixing of the species.......many fight but only few survive.

Another good entry in the Mercy Thompson series. Moves fast with lots of action. Mercy and Adam's relationship gets a little more solid. I did expect a higher body count among the werewolves given the betrayals, seems like the happy ending was a little forced, a very minor fault.
Love every book in this series.
