I think my favorite part of this book was how well Luanne Rice writes descriptions of places and scenery. I feel like I have spent a few days on Martha's Vineyard and made a quick trip to Ireland. Addiction, AA and Alanon added a very nice storyline and was beautifully written. The 3 sisters, their relationships with one another and the important people in their lives are interesting. It isn't my favorite Luanne Rice book, but I did enjoy watching the characters grow, their family dysfunction, and it got me thinking. I recommend it, but not when you're in a Janet Evanovitch mood!

I've read several negative reviews about this book but to my surprise, I found it very enjoyable. It is not without flaws; the plot was predictable in places, it felt rushed in places (the whole trip to Ireland felt disjointed when I wanted lyrical), but I loved the family connections, the characters of the sisters and their island friends and the almost mystical threads connecting them all together. Not the author's best work, but frankly, I enjoyed it much more than the author's two or three books preceeding this one. I felt this book harkened back to the feel of the Hubbard's Point/Black Hall books that I so adored. Give this book a chance; you might find the enjoyment in it that I did too.

Normally I enjoy her novels - I just couldn't get into this one at all. Gave up at about 50 pages in. Better luck with the next one!

Believe or not this is the first book I've read by this author. At first I was going to give up on the story since it was moving alittle slow. Also I read a review on it that wasn't positive. But I don't like to give up on a book. I'm glad I read the story about 3 sisters that had a hard decision to make between them. I enjoyed the descriptions written to visual items in the story. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

The love is gone. There was a time when I would buy Luanne's Rice's books the minute that they hit the shelves. Not so much anymore, because she's disappointed me with her last few efforts. I used to lose myself in her stories and characters but this one was like the last few - boring and predicatable. I won't be in a rush to pick up her next book and wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

This book was disappointing. A light and very quick read. I appreciated some of the family elements of the story especially how family relationships and memories can be associated with a particular place. And Martha's Vineyard is a beautiful setting. However, much of the story line was far fetched and somewhat disjointed. It is a story of three sisters, but really focuses on just one. Another story line is that of a nephew who is recovering addict. It really did not add anything to the book. Another character is an eccentric old friend who is living in a storage unit. There if friendship and an unexplored romance there, but again left unresolved and disjointed. Disappointing overall.
