Miss Silence Eddington, raised at Belliston Parva orphanage, is hired by James Ffolliott to companion his stepdaughter Amy. Amy is beautiful and charming, but she is in poor health, subject to fits of hysteria. Silence truly loves Amy and manages her moods and fits better than anyone before her, but her very success puts her life in danger, and she doesn't even realize it. Set in 1880-1881. A good old fashioned gothic read, the sort of thing Elsie Lee was known for.
