Must read for anyone with more than one child--the sooner, the better! I have given it to several friends when they are expecting a 2nd. The authors' How To Talk So Kids Can Listen and Listen So Kids Can Talk is my favorite parenting book.

From the widely acclaimed authors of How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk comes the sanity-saving help parents everywhere have been looking for. Written with humor, compassion and understanding, and illustrated with delightful cartoons. Siblings Without Rivalry challenges the idea that constant, unpleasant conflict is natural and unavoidable, and in action-oriented, easy-to-understand anecdotes and stories shows the many ways you can teach your children how to get along.

This is a book that I like to pick up whenever I see it at garage sales or clearance sales simply because it's full of such wonderful advice to pass along to friends. I find myself re-reading it periodically when I slip into my old ways of nag/complain/fuss until I'm so frustrated with my children we end up miserable. Family harmony is easy to achieve when the principles in this book are followed.

Sibling relationships are often fraught with rivalry, jealousy, bitterness, and violence, and the older kids get, the worse the problems seem to get. Sibling strife can be agony for the parents, and few are prepared for the intensity of the battles and emotions that their kids have with each other. The title, Siblings Without Rivalry promises a lot, and Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish (coauthors of How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk) deliver the goods: a positive approach and specific techniques to help bring peace and cooperation into your home.

It is not that I didn't like this book I just like How to talk so kids will listen...better. Maybe because I only have one child so far and this book SERIOUSLY made me reconsider ever having more ;) Though having six siblings of my own I think even with all the bad (there is plenty of it) there are really amazing benefits to having siblings. This book helps to empower your kids without adding more stress to your life. I like the idea that your kids can find solutions to problems if you make them and express faith in their abilities. I also really like that you have to treat each child uniquely and not compare or label. Good luck getting the rest of the world not to label them. Now to put these skills into practice, off I go.
