This was probably more of a 2.5 but rounding up just for the premise alone.
A bunch of survivalists are setting up camp and preparing for the doomsday that they feel in inevitable. However, they are trying to do it as off the grid as possible (no building permits, 40 miles from closest town, etc).
Sadly, in that setting, there are bound to be a few that are just shy of if not full blown bat shit crazy. Of course, no one expects it to be a kid. Hence, the revolt where all the children kill the parents because they fear there are not enough provisions.
The story just started picking up and becoming interesting as it ended. I didn't particularly care for any of the characters. The cliffhanger ending is really a cheap ploy to try to snag readers into the next book, but there really wasn't enough substance in this first one for me to care.
