#1 Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James British police procedural in which Supt. Kincaid is on holiday in Yorkshire, taking his cousin's place last-minute at a timeshare at a small-town country estate turned B&B. When the body of the assistant manager, whom Kincaid met and liked, is found floating in the Jacuzzi along with a plugged-in electric space heater, the holiday starts to seem too much like work. I've had this book on my TBR for ages and am sorry I haven't read it sooner. This looks to be another Brit police series that I'm going to quite enjoy and have ordered the second in series from PBS.

I like the Gemma James character. This one of the series is mostly about Kincaid, however.

This is the first book on the Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James mysteries. A very good read, I liked the character of Duncan Kincaid, Superintendent Kincaid takes a holiday at a time-share and instead of relaxing he is involved in a murder plot...a body floating in a hot-tub, followed by another murder. He calls his Sargent for help in investigating a crime that is not in his district, but he cannot help but get involved. i liked it.

The first in her long series featuring Scotland Yard's Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James, and it's an English country house murder. Except the country house is a timeshare, and someone's murdered the assistant manager. Kincaid is supposed to be there on vacation but can't help getting involved when the local police look like doing an incompetent job. Anyone could have done it, and so the investigation begins. It's been a very long time since I read this first, so it was fun to go back and see how Crombie started her characters. The suspects are a bit stereotyped, and so is Kincaid, but it's still a good read.
The First Kincaid and James mystery
it was ok

A week's holiday in a luxurious Yorkshire time-share is just what Scotland Yard's Superintendent Duncan Kincaid needs. But the discovery of a body floating in the whirlpool bath ends Kincaid's vacation before it's begun. One of his new acquaintances at Followdale House is dead; another is a killer. â Despite a distinct lack of cooperation from the local constabulary, Kincaid's keen sense of duty won't allow him to ignore the heinous crime, impelling him to send for his enthusiastic young assistant, Sergeant Gemma James. But the stakes are raised dramatically when a second murder occurs, and Kincaid and James find themselves in a determined hunt for a fiendish felon who enjoys homicide a bit too much.
