Shards of Empire is about the fall of Constantinople. A historical fiction novel set in Byzantium as the empire is destroyed by the Turks. There is treachery, plots and conspiracies to keep the plot twisting and turning at every chapter. A well researched book that describes the difficulty of living in the steppe and confrontation with mounted enemy. A fantastic story about the underground cities and the people that occupied them. Myths, cults and the beginning of the Crusades of the Middle Ages. An excellent book. I found this book very informative and entertaining, a easy way to get a bit of a history lesson about a country and region I knew little about.
