I can imagine how, in a more repressed society, this book would be scandalous. I didn't find it particularly interesting, and thought the main character, Coco, was an egotistical, self absorbed, whiny mooch. Her journey of enlightment and sexual discovery didn't seem to bring her growth or maturity.

Nice to see that hipsters in China can be just as shallow and self-centered as hipsters in America. I found the characters very unlikeable.

This was a great book in it's own rite, but not a book that I would have typically picked up. The writing bounces from here to there and seems like you are reading someone's journal a lot of times (you'll see what I mean when you hit the end). I can't lie, it was a good book, I just don't think I would have paid to read it new. Now, it is a great trade and well worth the credit you spend for it....For being great, even though not my typical read, I'll give it 5 stars.

I bought this book to read on a flight back from Europe - if I had something else to read, I would have preferred it. Some it was interesting, but for the most part, I was bored with Coco, her junkie boyfriend and her German lover. Wish I had my 12 and time back.
