This mystery was a nice quick summer read. The author offers enough possible motives for characters to keep the reader guessing, and the ending was not completely obvious. The best part of this book, however, was the author's description of the old house that the main character is visiting. The house becomes almost a character in the story, and the descriptions brought my mind back to the old New England home where I grew up.

I read *Shadows at the Fair* as well, and I think the details of the murders and the travails the main characters experience take this Maggie Summer series right to the edge of the cozy genre.

The things that happened to babies here in the plot were grisly and upsetting, but I enjoy the details about the antiques business so much that I'll keep reading. It was fascinating when Maggie was browsing the boxes of books at Walter English's auction preview.

Very good book! Loads of questions and possibilities and mini mysteries along the way keep you reading on and on. I found it to be very realistic with a plausible ending. Definitely going to seek out more from this series!

*Although the info about antique prints (which the author seems to know a lot about) was interesting, there was just a tad too much of it.

I enjoyed the book and read it in three days. It's a winding mystery....you may guess WHO did it, but the WHY will give you pause for thought! It's wonderfully written while you enjoy the Coast of Maine along with antique buying and selling.
Enjoy this writer!
