There are quite a few bad reviews in Amazon about this book mostly pointing to the fact that this was Trez's book and they didn't like the way things turned out for him. After reading it I realized it was not just his book, it was Iam's book as well. The book's title, after all, is The Shadows.
Some also complain about too many stories going on in one book. That's one of the reasons I love her books. There's always something going on, almost constant movement, and I love it. There are never any slow parts.
Five stars and two thumbs up.

It's tough to talk too much about this book without giving it away. Suffice it to say that this is the story of the two Shadow brothers, Trez and iAm. So much is revealed about both of them, and their characters are really flushed out. I really thought this was one of Ward's best books in quite a while, and I really enjoyed The King. I cried and cried, and it was beautiful and touching.

Side stories - I am not particularly interested in the character of Assail, and now we're being introduced to yet another new character, but at least this new one is more interesting to me. I do hope the next book is about Xcor, Ward has definitely built my interest about him and Layla.

I was also a bit confused about Rhage in this book. Not completely clear on what was happening here except that he came to terms again with what a close call he had with Mary. I wish I'd read his and Mary's book more recently, it probably would've made that part of the story more powerful for me.
