I would definitely read book #1 before this book. While Mrs. Leigh tries to give you all the background information, at times I was even confused and I read the first book! Some in the book are reincarnated from book #1, like Chantel, so the story ties in nicely with the first book.

The sequel to Shattered legacy follows Chantel and Develin into the 21st Century. Great read and easy to follow.
