I bought this book to take my mind off of school work, thinking I could read a couple chapters here, couple chapters there. Didn't happen. This book sucked me in and I must admit, I got NO homework done because I couldn't put the book down. I even contemplated trying to read while driving to pick up my son from a school function. LOL!! The historical piece at the beginning was interesting and created the perfect backdrop for the story to unfold. I'll be looking for more Garwood titles just as soon as I finish final exams.

This is the kind of book I always expect from Julie Garwood. She begins the book with the story of St.Biel, which is where Princess Gabrielle is from. She weaves the story and you can imagine what it must have been like to live there.
Garwood is an excellent story teller, and I love her Highlander books and have missed them. This one is worth reading. It has the perfect pace and both the hero and heroine are created without driving the reader nuts. You know the kind of books that the heroine whines too much or whatever or the hero is too callous or whatever? Well, it does NOT happen in this book. You fall in love with both characters and their interactions with each other.

I have not read any books by Julie Garwood before. This is a novel about greed, warring clans in Scotland, and a beautiful princess. The princess, Gabrielle, is a beauty that is beloved by all her know her. From a happy, carefree life, she is suddenly thrown into chaos by being bannished from king and country because of lies. Thr characters are full and believable and the story moves at a fast pace. Good book. I'll read more of Garwood's books.

Great book - historical romance with some unexpected twists.

I enjoyed the book, but it's been so long since she's written a book about Highlanders that I can't remember how all the characters are related.

good characters, fun story, interesting plot. Excellent read.
Dreamy...
I really liked this book. This is a great series.
Julie Garwood has become one of my favorite authors her stories about the highlands are really exciting I could not put this book down I cant wait to read more of her books.
Princess Gabrielle of St. Biel travels to Scotland with her guard to marry a highlander. King John has arranged Gabrielle's marriage in hopes it will facilitate peace in the Highlands. As Gabrielle and her party cut through the woods, they stumble upon a badly beaten man who is about to be buried alive. Gabrielle stops the whole process with her bow, saving the man's life.
This is the third book in Julie Garwood's Highland Lairds series. As with the previous books in the series, the hero is the Laird of his clan. Colm MacHugh is a giant of a man who first sees Gabrielle when she is being accused of being a harlot. He doesn't know what to make of her but knows that she is innocent of the claims. Gabrielle is sweet. Everyone loves her. She has a stubborn streak and a mind of her own. She knows that two of King John's Barons are behind the lies but doesn't know how to prove it.
Overall, this was a quick read that doesn't take itself too seriously. The villains are laughable. The story of the lost treasure is easy to figure out. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
