Beautiful Laura Reynolds was a skilled actress - but never had she played such a dangerously demanding role. Shades of the Past is a regency romance with a twist that involves time travel. Sandra Heath seems to write a unique genre of love, romance and sex in the Regency era, with the heroine being a(then-modern) day gal of the 90s. The sex is not full on erotica, although it is a little spicy for these types of books.

In this particular story, actress Laura Reynolds travels back in time as a Regency actress (little above a whore) who must-against her will-aide and abet a cruel conspirator, who is determined to have Lord Blair Deveril's heart broken. The only problem is, Laura is falling in love with him.

While I do love time travel in romances, I felt there was too much jumping back and forth between modern times and Regency era. Sometimes the heroine would only spend a few minutes back in time before she was whisked off to modern time again. There was one scene where the past was revealed through a painting (whatever was happening in the past was taking place in the scene of a painting) and I thought it really added to the story.

Overall a good book-not a must-have, but great for anyone looking for another time-travel romance for their bookshelf.
