Excellent read. I liked this Midnight Breed story much better than the previous one [Andreas]. My complaint about that one was personal, I don't care for plots where the h/h's motivation is [massive] death of friends/family.

This is Kade's book, the Order has very little presence until almost the end of the book. [I did miss their camaraderie and the appearance of other Order members and mates.] He's a relative newcomer to the Order sent to Alaska [where he is originally from] to deal with an apparent problem. It turns out to be a very real problem, and one that grows even larger as Kade finds out more and more about the attacks and the area around the tiny Alaskan town of Harmony where the vampire attacks have occurred. He is a strong and charismatic hero and the author does a great job exposing his character and the torments of his situation to the reader. The heroine is Alex, a bush pilot who lives in the area. She is another competent and take charge heroine worthy of the hero complete with her own back story.

As an author, I've always thought Adrian does a particularly good job of the writing directive 'show, don't tell'. She makes us feel the cold and shudder with the icy winds. [I'll have to reread this book during our 100*+ summer.] Her plots are page turners and her characters are well-developed, people you'd want to know.

The story arc of the Alaskan vampire attacks, Kade's family background and the mating of Kade and Alex are all resolved. BUT she has introduced some very VERY intriguing threads for the next novel. I suspect readers will be lining up for the next installment [mine went on pre-order at Amazon as soon as I finished this one!] since we're all dying to know which way she's going to take this...

I liked this installment in the series. But Kade is a new member of the Order and has less history. He is sent to Alaska to take care of the latest incident involving a vampire attack. Only to discover it is much more that just a Rogue vampire. Eliciting the help of a bush guide Alexandra Maguire, he finds himself falling for her. He saves her as much as she saves him. Their story seems somewhat "lighter" than the others in this series, probably because the other members of the Order don't appear much in this book. But it is still a good book. It moves the series along and takes a VERY interesting twist in the end and i can't wait till the next one to find out what happens.

I'm really enjoying this series of books. Unlike others of it's kind, I'm not feeling like I'm reading the same story over and over again. As a matter of fact, I find each volume unpredictable, because I'm still wondering, "What about Chase?"

A better book than the last couple I have read by Lara Adrian. However if I hadn't already owned this book, I wouldn't have read another.

Shades of Midnight takes place away from the Darkhaven of the other books, instead being in the Alaskan bush.

The couple was fairly sexy together and the story kind of interesting. Adrian's storytelling is not for me - her style being more to Tell what happens than Show. Couples fall in love without any explanation, they want each other, know each other's moods and feelings and twinkle in the eye without Adrian ever Showing us how they arrived there. The book was 370+ pages but you felt like the romance was rushed, that they fell too easily in love.

It wasn't as deadly boring as I found the last Lara Adrian book I read, but ultimately a forgettable romance.
