TV Reporter Corky Courrant has released a video that proves that vampires are real. Word is spreading through the human race and the vampire leaders have chosen Gregori Holstein to meet with the President and persuade him to declare the video a hoax. After negotiations, the President agrees with one stipulation. He would like Gregori and his vampire friends to help his daughter, Abby, venture into China to find two plants she needs to complete a possible cure for her dying mother. Abby is still having a hard time believing vampires are real and doesn't trust them. But she is drawn to Gregori and believes he will keep her from harm.
After eleven books, I figured the series would be running out of steam; but this book was a very entertaining fast read. Gregori has appeared in most of the books in the series as a handsome young vampire with a sense of humor. In this book he is the hero and lives up to the role. He is given the task of convincing the President to keep the vampire race a secret. Vampires are afraid they will be hunted and staked during their death sleep when they are defenseless. He doesn't expect to fall for the First Daughter, Abby Tucker, a scientist who is searching for a cure for her mother's cancer. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
Gregori is a character I liked because I liked his sense of humor. However, I wasn't sure would do as a leading character in his own book. I was pleasantly surprised! A favorite quote- "Do you want a donut?" (Howard). New baddies in this one (they might not be new- it's been forever since I've read the previous books in this series- Master Han has a familiar ring to it). Will see how next book plays out (and I won't wait so long to start it)
You would think I would be a little tired of a series when it reaches number 11. Nothing could be further from the truth. Although I lust after Connor(that's a whole nother story!), Gregori has always had a soft spot in my heart. I'm glad that he is paired with Abby, a smart, very put together young lady. I enjoyed the couple's interaction, the intrigue and of course, the romance. I really liked that family is emphasized. All in all an excellent read. 4 stars
