Just as a note, this book is intended for a more mature audience than many of Madeleine L'Engle's better-known books. It deals directly with both sexual issues and violence, and therefore may not be appropriate for younger readers.
Children's author writing for adults. A grande dame in her seventies returns to NY from Europe to retire. She finds that she is not done with life yet.
Set in New York, story about a great pianist who has retired. She gets involved in the life of an old friend and his circle. An interesting story.
This was selected by a friend for our book club and the back cover of the book initially turned me off. How exciting could a story be about an old woman and her relationships with the individuals who work for the local church? Surprisingly, very exciting. L'Engle is a really gifted writer and she weaves a story that provides more thrills and intrigue than you'd ever expect. I found myself loving this book. It has so many layers, such inticate characters and constant suprises around every page. Fabulous!
