Dollycas's Thoughts

In this second installment of this fun new series from Julie Anne Lindsey the residents of Bliss, Georgia are getting ready for the Founder's Day celebration. Bonnie Balfour, owner of the Bless Your Heart is recycling and redesigning ball gowns with the members of the Founder's Day Court in mind. Each member of the court will be able to select a gown free of charge. She thinks it is a wonderful marketing campaign as each woman is selected for making a significant contribution to the community and is well known for their efforts. Bonnie's own mom is on the court and she would be delighted to be crowned Lady Luck for the year.

But there may be a fly in the ointment that will mar the big event. Bonnie's Grandma Gigi is about to cause a huge ruckus because she believes one of her friends is using her Peach Cobbler recipe and selling it in the Enchanted Gardens park. As soon as Gigi tastes the cobbler she knows she is correct and confronts her friend publically making such a scene she is kicked out of the park by the police.

Later that evening the woman is found dead by Gigi herself and her prints are all over the murder weapon. Bonnie and Clyde again have to team up to save the day by cobbling together every clue they can to prove Gigi's innocence. New Sheriff, Mason HANS (Short for Handsome New Sheriff) Wright does his best to deter her but Bonnie can't back down even when putting her own life in danger.

It is so easy to get invested in these characters' lives. They are fresh, fun, and full of Southern charm. I continue to be in awe of Bonnie's sewing capabilities and love the way she upcycled the ball gowns for the ladies. I absolutely love Clyde, he is one sneaky little devil. The relationship evolving between Bonnie and Mason is delightful. Their banter is fun and true to life. He really does want to keep her safe, but someone from his past could really twist things up. Gigi cracked me up several times but that encounter with Rowena in chapter two had the cobbler flying and me laughing out loud as I could picture every moment. All the characters are so well written. The core characters are developing nicely and those new in this book are captivating as well even if one of them is a murderer.

I really enjoyed the way the author plotted out this story. The pace was constant, something was always happening. She tossed in some really nice twists, red herrings, and comedic events to keep everyone on their toes.

The one thing I have learned now after reading the first two books of this series and the spinoff No Farm, No Fowl, is that I am unable to put the book down once I start reading it. I started this one a little later in the evening and was surprised at the hour when I flipped the last page. I hadn't even noticed the rest of my family had gone to bed. I really escaped into this book.

Julie Anne Lindsey never disappoints. Seven Deadly Sequins was a great light-hearted read. I love that we are getting to know all the characters better including their backstories. I thoroughly enjoyed this trip to Bliss. I hope to visit again soon and see what mischief Bonnie and Clyde get tangled up in next.
