This is a heart wrenching story of a man named Issac and what he goes through while in prison for a crime he didnt commit.You will also see what his family must endor while he is away. You will also find out how each family member deals with Issac being gone. This is a fast read and I couldnt put the book down I kept wanting to read to find out what would happen next.I was rooting for the characters. I also found parts of the book were I wanted to cry.I would love to see the author write a second story following this one to tell us what happned to Issac and his family since the first left us with our imagination to find out the ending.I would say this is definatley worth reading. I promise you wont be disappointed.

Grabs you from the very first page. This novel takes place in Iran after the fall of the shah and surrounds the arrest of a Jewish jeweler and his subsequent incarceration. It also details the lives of his family and their individual struggles in the wake of the arrest. Very well written. I wanted it to continue after it was finished!

It took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did I couldn't put it down. It sent me to my computer several times to refresh my memory of the events portrayed in the book. Ms. Sofer writes so beautifully. The story is heartrending, painful and yet hopeful. I can't wait to see what Ms. Sofer does next. Very highly recommended.

This novel didnt impress me as much as other reviewers, but I may be jaded, having read and seen many political imprisonment stories at this point. Septembers of Shiraz is moving, though for me that had to do more with the quality of the writing than the plot. The sections in the sons point of view seemed superfluous. Its true that he was in a different country from the rest of the family, but he could easily have been in a different book as well. I found the young daughters experiences the most interesting and engaging, but they received the least amount of attention from the author. That said, I would read this author again, as she writes very well.
