The Treaty of 1823 included the cession of Semnole lands in northern Florida and an end to the taking in of escaped slaves. "In return for 30 million acres of fertile farmland, the Indians received 5 million acres of land unfit for cultivation."
Note the color plates of Seminole textiles. Long contact with Christian missionaries has caused their old beliefs to be largely forgotten.
