Very good book, although in some parts very sad. The writing was excellent and the characters were portrayed as real people with their own faults and pasts they are trying to forget.

Laura Kinsale never fails to surprise me. The most unlikely characters you will ever find in a romance. Plus, a penquin. Great reading!

One of the best books I have ever read. It shows that even heroes need help from the heroine.

I am a Laura Kinsale fan, but I did not enjoy this book. There were several times when I felt she just dropped the reader into a scene without any preparation--leaving the reader with a feeling of disconnect. I found the heroine to be single-mindedly naive and the hero's actions to be downright bizarre at times. Also, the author attempted to make the book epic in scope and spread the action out over more than a year, but most of the time I found myself asking "Are we there yet?"

Love, love, love Kinsale, just didn't particularly love this book. Couldn't get into the characters and it seemed excessively wordy.
