Guthrie's semi-autobiographical tale features a Quixotic journey from Oklahoma to Texas to search for a lost mine featured in family history, accompanied by his father and two uncles. Guthrie loses points here by rendering all the dialogue in such torturous dialect that it is essentially unreadable. There's probably a fine story under here, and there are moments when he dumps the corn-pone / chili pepper dialect and flies off with the language of the people, but they are too few and far between.
