This is the last book in the "Toby Peters" series, as the author probably got tired of the characters. This book was published in 2004 and Kaminsky died in 2009, but he wrote at least seven other novels after this one.
What made this one more interesting than just a mystery is that---as Peter's client is the famous magician Harry Blackstone---the beginning of each chapter describes a magic trick and how to perform it. I was never into magic, but a couple of the simple ones I've already used to "amaze and entertain" my friends and visitors to a historic state park I volunteer at.
The killer is someone you'd never suspect, just as you would never suspect "dentist Sheldon Minck" could actually perform a perfect filling.
