Set in 1830's England, Brett wins Kate in a wager with her brother. Kate saw Brett as a way to escape the cruelty and torment of her brother. Not the best way to start a relationship but perhaps a beginning for a love story.

An enjoyable departure from the normal North American western fare of author Greenwood's books.
