I'm not a huge fan of Harlequin category romances, but I am a fan of Toni Blake's, who is IMO a greatly underappreciated romance author. I see hints of the writer she will become in this book. The depth of emotion is here as it is in her later books, even if the story circumstances are typically HQ. If you're going to read the category books, Toni Blake's are good ones to read.
