I have never seen an author so preoccupied with group sex in my life. The plot is enough to carry it though. Quite good.

After reading books with absolutely no sex, there is nothing better for me than thoroughly glutting myself with an erotic novel. On the surface this book is about fairies, the race to the Unseelie throne, bringing magic back to a land lost to it through misrule, but it's really about sex. Sex with a single man, multiple men, a woman, and even a goat. Kidding about the goat. There are goblins with multiple appendages, but Meredith doesn't have sex with them. Meredith is a sexual being and takes great pleasure in expressing that. I say let the fictional character revel in an essential part of human nature. There are many authors whose main characters who dwell on the perversions of humanity, but Meredith Gentry is an adult who has healthy relationships. There is no deliberate infliction of pain, there are no dark obsessions, instead, there is a level of caring for each of the people she is involved with. She isn't selfish or distrusting, and honestly if more erotica had characters like her I would be more comfortable reading it. Sure, Meredith and her Merry Men aren't conventional, but their relationship with each other is so much more healthy and better for everyone than tons of books out there.

The more I read from this author the more I love her. The 3rd book in this series and it just keeps getting better. Highly erotic just to let you know, also good mystery. She creates fantastic characters and makes you see the beauty in them all. Read the whole series.

I like this series....I do get a little annoyed with all the sex=power that Laurell K. Hamilton is so fond of in both her series. Although at least the sex is about creating a child that will secure the throne for Merry. I just get a little tired of it always being literally earth moving and god creating sex. There is plenty of plot around and including the intimate areas. It's a page turner and I am becoming quite impressed with Meredith's ability to rule.

Not her best series, IMHO.

I love Hamiltion's Anita Blake series but I'm just not sure I like Meredith Gentry. If you like lots of rough sex scenes then you may like this series. I just wish it had more plot action with less emphasis on the sex...
enjoyed the book.

The third in the Merry Gentry series. Meredith's aunt wants her pregnant before her cousin Cel to be able to take over the crown. But even if Meredith is not getting pregnant she is getting stronger.

Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series started out as a story about a half-Sidhe paranormal detective who happened to have a lot of sex. It's become a story about Sidhe who have a lot of sex, and not much else. For the first half of this book, not much happens except a lot of sex. And beautiful elf men standing around looking sexy when they don't happen to be actively having sex.
The very unfortunate thing is that all this sex is aimed at getting Merry pregnant so that she can inherit the throne and become queen. It's like Hamilton was afraid that she couldn't have her character simply enjoy having a lot of sex with a lot of people just 'cause.... it needs to be for pregnancy. Blah.
In the second half of the book, things (finally) get moving a little bit past the bedroom - everyone's powers start mysteriously increasing, and there's an assassination attempt on Merry that may come from an unpredicted source...
which is basically an excuse for a lot of violence, sadism and blood fetishism, and, of course, more sex.
So, if you're interested in reading about pretty elves (and some nasty goblins) and sex (and violence), this book is for you. If you demand a tightly structured plot that actually progresses - it's not.

Meredith's aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness, is no longer distracted by her usual sadistic hobbies. Her obsession has turned unwaveringly to her niece, hiding among humans in Los Angeles. The queen's mission to get Meredith pregnant and beat her cousin Cel to the crown is taking longer than expected. Even through Meredith spends each night with the queen's immortal guards, no child has come of their decadent pleasures. But something else is happening. Enemies are growing in number every day. Meredith's magic surges though her like never before, transforming her in wild and unpredictable ways. And Meredith is just beginning to learn what incredible power she possesses...
Interesting book to read-very different but the interest keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen next. A good fantasy to keep your mind off the real world.

This was another fast-paced story in the series that had me reading the book in one sitting. I love how detailed the author is in describing everything without boring the reader. She manages to make her own fantasy world out of the creatures we've read about in myth and give them depth and personality as well as making them sexy and fun.

The third novel in Laurell K. Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series, Seduced by Moonlight continues the story of Merry Gentry, a mortal Faerie princess hiding in L.A. Her aunt, the immortal and insane Queen of Air and Darkness, has ordered her to compete with her cousin, Prince Cel, in making a baby. Whoever produces a child first wins the throne of the Unseelie Court. But Merry still hasn't conceived--and that's not her only problem. Unknown assassins seek her life; her magical powers are becoming potent and uncontrollable; and her sadistic aunt has just commanded her to return to Faerie.

The first half of Seduced by Moonlight is a snoozer but the story picks up when Meredith returns to the Unseelie Court. I almost stopped reading the book but pushed through because I want to read the wholes series. I hope the next book is better.

Readers tired of mild modern fairy-tales about nice, polite elves may want to explore the Meredith Gentry series, which remembers that Faerie was originally a dark, dangerous realm of sex and violence. Hamilton's Queen of Air and Darkness is a vicious killer and torturer, and many of her fay drink blood or practice kinky sex (or both).

From Publishers Weekly
Considering all the complications, sexual and otherwise, that Merry Gentry, heir to the faerie throne, endured in A Kiss of Shadows (2000) and A Caress of Shadows (2002), it's no surprise to find the start of Hamilton's third book in her erotic fantasy series weighed down by attempts to conversationally recap earlier convolutions. Even readers of the first two books might have problems sorting out exactly why Merry is messing with the goblin king via magic mirror. Though the author maintains interest through such devices as an imaginative sex scene involving Merry, two of her sidhe studs and a doll-sized, winged, blood-sucking demi-fey, it takes a milieu switch from L.A. to St. Louis and the Unseelie court for the plot to take off and become a page turner. Merry confronts faerie politics that make Machiavelli look like a rookie, while her aunt's sadistic madness leads to what must rank as one of the bloodier scenes of fictional slaughter. Since Merry's previous role as a private eye has almost completely disappeared, nefarious deeds require magic to solve rather than detection. Hamilton's trademark mix of the personal and emotional along with the sexual will as usual delight her fans. Add yet another tour de force ending, a new final total of 16 lustful sidhe male immortals with whom to couple (or triple or...), and a fair future is assured for Merry for at least another few books.

Awesome as usual can't wait for the next.
I thibk this series is more colorful than anita, I love how she realtes the usual fantasy lore that we are used to seeing in books like LOTR and brings them updated to our present world. A huge twist for fantasy buffs, if u can stand the sexual material
Kind of like a detective story on steriods. Can't add much to this one that isn't already there: romance, fantacy, intrigue. Imaginative and steamy.

My previous experience with the Anita Blake series led me to this book hoping for a gutsy heroine and lots of action. There is action and descriptions of odd characters with extra eyes and magic skills. Guess I didn't make it to the sexy parts, as they mostly were talking about it, trying to be lyrical, but somehow the characters weren't coming alive for me so I gave it up.
I didn't want to pan this book entirely, knowing Laurell Hamilton's abilities, she might pull it together, but I just wasn't willing to keep soldiering on hoping for a turn around.

Some of her men are desperate to get her with child because if they are the father then their celibacy can be lifted because they will merry her. It seems that no matter how far she is from court her powers seem to keep growing and her enemies keep trying to kill her. Her love for her men keep growing and a few of her closest guards have seemed to find a permanent place in her heart.
Even during her dreams she seems to keep growing her powers. During a dream the chalice, a relic once lost, comes back. The Godess continues to use her as a vessel. She sometimes worries that her mortal body wont be able to handle all that the Godess seems to want her to do. She continues to keep trying to do the best she can for all her men and still she wonders to what end will the Godess keep using her.
