Absoutely LOVED this book! It deals with Anne Bassett who really was the King's mistress for several years (off and on). She lived through several queens as maid of honor to each of them.....including Queen Mary. At the very end she includes what happened to each of the main (real) characters in her story which I loved because I always wonder about this when I read historical fiction books. This is my 2nd Kate Emerson novel I have read and I really enjoyed the first one as well. I am highly anticipating her next novel!

Interesting look into the life of Nan Basset, who happened to be one of the love interests of King Henry VIII. Her ambitions were high but changed along the way. She was close at times, but never became queen which could be an good thing for her considering how many wives the king did have and how he got rid of them.

Kate Emerson writes a great book of historical history of the king's court; that of Henry VIII. The book will take the reader on a great voyage with Anne Bassett, the wanna-be queen to King Henry VIII. Nan, as she is known in the book never makes it as queen, but she has much to say and tell... The author shares much about life of the maids at court, His grace, the King,....his mistresses, wives, lords and others in the kingdom. If you like European history and romance, you will enjoy reading the book. Great writing and details by Kate Emerson.
