Danielle Steel is my favorite author and I have read a lot of her books. Although, it was predictable, is still was a page turner. If you like romantic hollywood novels this book is for you. You will read about, Jane, a woman who realizes she is married to a horny drunk, Zachory, who hasn't been with a woman in years; Bill, who is secretly married to a former actress who is now a drug addict; Gabrielle, who is not what she seems; and Sabina, the famous movie actor who seems like perfection to everyone around her but in the end she like everyone else is hiding her own secret.

Secrets is the drama behind the creation of Manhattan, a first-of-its-kind prime-time tv series. Tempered by tragedy, seasoned by success.
Sabina Quarles at forty-five has managed to maintain -- by a diet of spunk and surgery -- the body of an eighteen year old. Tough, spirited, and self-sufficient, she has survived twenty years in Hollywood, never marrying, never quite succeeding, never deigning to work in television. Yet Manhattan may bring her both the stardom she craves -- and the security her very special needs require.

Jane Adams is an earthy thirty-nine year old beauty. Devoted to her children, dominated by her abusive and violent husband. Forced to choose between her marriage and her acting career, Jane may find that her role in Manhattan has cost her everything that matters most.

Zack Taylor, the leading man, is a paragon of professionalism. Yet beyond the smooth good looks, the easy warmth, and the slick charm of the eligible bachelor, he remains an enigma.

Gabrielle Thornton-Smith, the charming ingenue, seems to have appeared out of the blue. Beautiful, talented, and on the brink of success at twenty-five, what can she have to hide?

Bill Warwick, plucked from the ranks of struggling young actors, is now slated to be the nation's new heartthrob. But he has lied about one issue in his background. Not only will Bill's future hang in the balance, but the success of the whole series may be jeopardized when he is forced publicly to confront the consequences of his little white lie.

Secrets goes behind the scenes into the making of a major TV series. Probing even deeper beneath the polished surfaces, exploring the dilemmas both men and women, in and out of the searchlight of the media, confront today.

Sex, secrets, scandal all abound in this Hollywood romance. The story is about a top television series called MANHATTAN (those that remember DALLAS will see some similarity here). This is a fast paced story with a little mystery and mayhem thrown in too. Not a five star romance, but not bad at all. You might even manage a little heavy breathing in places! Lots of insider details of how television movies are produced. Beautiful clothes, gorgeous women and hot leading men.

Danielle Steel's "Secrets" is a story that focusses on several people who all want to succeed in the Hollywood movie industry. These people are all very different but they have this same ambition in common and also the fact that they are all involved in a new TV series that everyone is convinced will take the world by storm.
"Secrets" is a story about what people will sacrifice for Hollywood and the lies that they will tell to further their own careers in the movie industry.

Secrets by Danielle Steel is the behind the scenes story of a one-of-a-kind prime time television series. This story features all the drama that surrounds the creation and development of a major hit television series. Now America's number-one best-selling novelist, Danielle Steel, takes her readers from the intimacies and intricacies of family relationships, into the glittering heart of the nation's most glamorous industry: television.

When Melvin Wechsler first conceived the idea of a television show like 'Manhattan', he was a man already known to have the Midas touch when it came to the entertainment industry. Tempered by tragedy, seasoned by success, a man like Mel Wechsler was known to be a star-maker when it came to producing seriously ground-breaking television. In his casting of 'Manhattan', Hollywood's own 'King Midas' will assemble a truly dazzling cast.

For Sabina Quarles, 'Manhattan' becomes the springboard that propels her from respected actress to Hollywood superstar and gives her the money to protect her well-guarded secret. For the ravishingly beautiful Jane Adams, 'Manhattan' will be her chance for escape from a brutal marriage and the secret she's kept for years. For Zach Taylor, Hollywood's sexiest leading man, 'Manhattan' will represent a great personal opportunity. Zach is the paragon of professionalism, the epitome of the charming eligible bachelor - yet beyond his smooth good looks, his easygoing manner, and even with the charming warmth of Hollywood royalty - the man still remains an enigma.

For the young ingenue Gabrielle Smith, 'Manhattan' will represent the role of a lifetime - a stunning dream come true - if no one discovers who she really is. And for Bill Warwick, 'Manhattan' will ultimately become his lifeline. Plucked from the ranks of struggling actors, and propelled to national heartthrob status seemingly overnight, Bill's role in the show will become the key to a completely new life. Yet no one knows that he lied about one specific issue in his background; and when his secret is finally revealed, not only will Bill's future hang in the balance, but the success of the entire series may be jeopardized when he is forced to publicly confront the consequences of his little white lie.

'Manhattan' - it promises to be the hottest television series seen in years. The stars may share their secrets with millions, yet offstage they are just ordinary people with hopes and dreams; lives and loves. People who are every bit as real as the characters they play on television. And as the viewers watch the drama unfold on the small screen, they may never truly understand that the actors are the ones sharing their passion and pain in the performance of their lives.

In my opinion, this book was typical Danielle Steel fare. The story was very good and I must say downright addictive reading for me. Despite Danielle Steel's tendency toward a verbose writing style and her somewhat soap operatic storytelling, I still found Secrets to be immensely entertaining. I would give this book an A!
