I enjoyed it very much. Lots of masquerading and double identities which is common in the Malloren series, of which this is apparently, and sadly the last book. The main characters are very clever and complex people. Jo Beverly really does a great job of blending excitement, danger and something of the political situation during that time into her plots, and there's always plenty of derring-do, by the heroine as well as the hero! It's a keeper for me, for a while at least.

What a great read! This book kept me up all night. I can't believe how intricate the story line was. I really got involved in the characters. I can't wait to read the next book by this author!

not one of Ms. Beverley's better efforts, and I'm a big fan of her Regencies.
THE SECRET DUKE
When Bella Barstowe is kidnapped and taken to a Dover tavern, she believes her life and virtue will be forfeit--until she's rescued by the notorious Captain Rose, a man who seems as dangerous to her as her original captors. Convinced her only option is to flee, she steals his horse and disappears into the night.
Bella nevers expects to see Captain Rose again, but years later she learns the wicked truth behind her abductions. Determined to get revenge, she seeks out the only ruthless man she knows--the man who rescued her all those years ago.
What she doesn't know is that Captain Rose is just a disguise for the formidable Duke of Ithorne, who is intrigued to hear from the mysterious woman from his past. Their lives are soon entangled by danger and a growing passion that should never be.

Thought I would love this one...but was a little disappointed...parts were good.
