This book had so much potential. Authors Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens had a great idea for a book but didn't know how to execute it. The story is choppy because it follows too many different story lines that never truly resolve, even at the end of the book. The characters are not developed; there's no background to any of them so we don't know how or why they got to where they are when the story starts. There's no resolution at the book's conclusion. I really didn't understand what the secret was that the "Family" had been protecting, and I didn't understand who the First Gods were. It was just disappointing to get to the end of this book and not know what it was about.
