I liked Penelope and Ryker's story even more than the prior book in the series, The Rogue's Wager. Penelope and Ryker are caught in an unwitting compromising position at the beginning of the book, and Penelope decides that she must marry him to save her younger sister, so that she is not shamed and will be able to find a suitable husband when the time comes. Penny is romantic and has always dreamed of a love match. Ryker grew up in an unloved and abusive situation, with no real home, so he has never had any dreams at all, and thinks he has no feelings. These two opposites are most certainly attracted to each other, but Ryker is untrusting, while Penny tries to make the best of the situation. She is able to draw out information from him and to understand what he has been through that makes him the way that he is. She goes about trying to bring joy into his life, while he is consumed by the club that he owns. Ryker has "brothers" that he has rescued from a similar life that he had, and they are loyal to each other. I am interested in reading their stories in the future. There is a twist near the end, to finally bring Ryker's feelings to the surface, and to finally bring him a measure of peace. Loved this story!
