This final book of the AMERICAN/SCOTTISH trilogy by Patricia Potter is great! The character development is masterful and the story line has lots of twists and turns.
Theres one big HOWEVER. This is the third girl-disguises-self-to-ride-on-a-cattle-drive story Ive read in as many weeks! At this rate, I cant imagine there were any cattle drives without women (stowing away as males)! Sheesh!
The Scotsman Wore Spurs brought the main characters of the two previous books to participate in the grand finale. There was lots of action and a mystery.
All three of the main characters in this book experience growth. Andrew Cameron was introduced in book 2; I really liked how he developed in book 3. The girl-turned-boy, Gabe Lewis/Gabrielle Parker, probably did the most growing up during the story.
Everyone has secrets and Patricia Potter does a great job telling their stories. Even the trail boss, Kirby Kingsley, has an important secret that is 25 years old!
I also thought Potter did a great job with the nephew jealousy sub-plot and resolved it nicely.
I couldnt put the book down; I read through the night. This was a very satisfying read!
American/Scottish Series
1. Diablo (1996)
2. The Marshal and the Heiress (1997)
3. The Scotsman Wore Spurs (1997)
