The true author is Joan Overfield, Carolyn Madison being a pen name. This is a nice, easy read, and it was interesting to watch an uncouth soldier learn to drink tea, dance and other "proper" skills.

Regency Romance. A lifelone Army mand inherits a title. He is tutored in the ways of the ton by a society miss.

I read this after (My Fair Gentleman by Nancy Campbell Allen) because I had heard they were similar story lines. This one wasn't as clean or proper. It tried much harder to be closer to a steamy romance novel with lots of military talk and terms.

I liked Ross and even Addy more or less but not much happens in the story as a whole (despite its length). Found myself curious about some of the other characters back stories but you never find out details about them. The idea that this entire novel is with Addy only in the company of her aunt or titled eligible men didn't seem accurate. Even if she is 25 and considers herself to be a spinster shouldn't she have female friends? Even her brothers are barely mentioned. Just seemed a bit too neat for it to all work out the way it did.

Carolyn Madison is a penname for Joan Overfield, a well known regency author. It is available on ebook under the Overfield name. I will not comment on the book because I haven't read it in years, but I have liked Overfield's other books.
