It's best to read these in order, and I feel in love with this series in this the first of them!
THIS IS A GREAT SERIES. HARD TO STOP ONCE YOU GET STARTED.

Although I haven't read this book (somehow ended up with two!), I like Terry Brook's work, and I've read a lot of it. His earlier series, starting with The Sword of Shannara, is very much like The Lord of the Rings series.
