Normally, I like scientific books. As I am also a Harry Potter fan, I believed this would be a great book to read. I, however, was wrong. In my opinion the book did not live up to the potential. From the first page even, the author addresses magic and the Harry Potter world as if it were real - which is somewhat creepy even to a fan like myself. While the scientific information was interesting, the way it was used was convoluted and wasn't transitioned well.

A very interesting concept, with many interesting facts that I had never considered or known. It does read much better than a textbook, so it gets extra points for that, but it is still similar to a lecture. However, it is presented in an entertaining fashion and is chalk-full of interesting tid-bits.
Lots of cool info! JK Rowling knows her stuff when she writes her books!

this book was dumb. it had so much potential- jennifer oullette's Black Bodies and Quantum Cats is written in much the same style and was so good! - but it was dumb. there was good and interesting information contained in it, but here's the thing- the magic in harry potter? is magic. is FICTION. it cannot be explained by science. it does not need to be explained by science. yes, science can, at times, seem magical- i'm down with that. but in the case of the harry potter books? it really is magic.
