I got this book for my son to read back when he was starting beginning chapter books. Unfortunately (or fortunately) he moved through beginning chapter books phase very quickly and is now on to series like the Spirit Animals and Wings of Fire. So this book sat around for a bit until he picked it up last night and quickly read it (he is 8 years old and it took him maybe 30 min to read). Then he gave it to me to read (it took me about 10 minutes to read). That being said this was a very short read that would be perfect for those kids who are starting to read beginning chapter books.

The story is about a boy named Sam Graves who is forced to be a dreaded Hall Monitor. However during his first stent as Hall Monitor he finds out that Eerie Elementary is a much scarier place than he originally thought...in fact it may be alive.

This was a somewhat creepy story. Sam is tasked with defending his classmates against this evil and living school. The ideas are a bit creepy but I never thought it got too scary. My son said that the book Kinda freaked me out but he (like his mother) has a great imagination and, as a result, a low tolerance for creepiness.

The pictures throughout the book are excellent, they add a lot to the story and are really well done. The story overall is creepy and cute; I enjoyed it.

Overall this a cute and creepy beginning chapter book with some wonderful pictures. I think it would be a perfect read for kids just starting to read beginning chapter books who enjoy creepy horror-type scary stories. Its not super scary but it definitely is creepy.
