I think the book could have been cut by a third and still have been an enjoyable read. A straight laced widow throws caution to the wind one night in New York thinking she will never see the gentleman again once she is back in England. Only he shows up at her family's country manor for her sister's wedding, and she tries her hardest to not only forget him, but drive him away.
