Loretta Chase spins another terrific yarn in the Dressmakers series. Scandal Wears Satin takes up with the middle sister, Sophy, who is the "actress" in the family, always putting on disguises and becoming different characters as she infiltrates the Ton. She keeps running into Harry Fairfax, Lord Longmore (evidently this is pronounced Lonemore if you ever wondered), elder brother of their favorite and most important customer Clara. When Clara winds up compromised and forced to agree to marry a lying, bankrupt jerk, Sophy and Harry join forces to save Clara and Maison Noirot, the dressmaking business.

The dialogue is fun and often hilarious, the wardrobe descriptions are almost mouthwatering if you like that sort of thing. There are a couple steamy scenes and the romance clicks along nicely.

While I've never read another book that rivals my favorite Loretta Chase story, Lord of Scoundrels, this book is certainly charming and worth the read.

Wildly entertaining! Some of the dialogue was so funny I had to read it twice. I loved Sophie, she was so smart, and the hero was one of Chase's big lunks who is not as stupid as he pretends to be. He did remind me a bit of Rupert from Mr. Impossible. The plot was improbable, but who cares when you're having so much fun?

"Scandal Wears Satin" is right up there with other Loretta Chase classics.

I wasn't sold on this new Dressmakers series, but I'm very glad I gave this second installment a chance. It's everything that readers love about Chase: tempting romance, humor, a hilarious kid. To be fair, the dress descriptions were a bit over the top (as in, way too many) and the situations Sophy finds herself in are questionable (what happens to her before the main love scene, what happens to her on purpose while she is in disguise at the end).

However, the story overall is fun and enjoyable and is definitely one for the keeper shelf!!
