If you're an animal person, you will love this book. If you're not, there are lessons to learn about compassion, mercy, and love. I smiled through the majority of this book. Based on a true story, the author is a writer who adopted a rescued donkey near death. Simon, the donkey, goes on Jon's personal journey of learning compassion and opening up to others and to life. A great story!

I loved this book. Parts of it were hard for me to read (in my ideal world animals aren't mistreated and all of them get along). That being said I sat down one rainy afternoon and devoured it. Some of it was a little heavy on the sermonizing - but all of us could use some compassion in our dealings with animals and other people.

Jon Katz has a comfortable way with words. I highly recommend this book.
