I've spent the past 25 years developing material to strengthen marriages. I wish Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts had been developed years ago. This program is practical, usable and long overdue - H. Norman Wright, Author of Before you Say I Do.

There is too little attention being paid to premarital preventative efforts. Our research at the University of Denver leaves little doubt of the value of intervening with couples before distress develops. I wholeheartedly support this program - Scott M. Stanley, Center for Marital Studies, University of Denver

The Parrotts continually speak to crucial areas within marriage. Their wisdom and practical application always give marriages hope. I recommend them and this book to you. Dr. John C. Maxwell, Founder, INJOY Leadership Institute

For 14 years, my wife and I have helped teach the pre-marital preparation class at our home church. What's our textbook? Beginning next semester, it's the one you hold in your hand. We feel it's required reading for couples considering the life-long commitment of marriage - John Trent, Ph.D., Author, Speaker, President of Encouraging Words

Les and Leslie Parrott have crafted exciting new ways to build a health marriagge that will go the distance. You can't afford to miss out on their excellent message. Gary Smalley, Author of If Only He Knew, For Better or For Best

Les and Leslie Parrott are tow of the most practical writers I know - Larry Crabb, Author of Men and Women, Finding God

We worked through this book along with the workbook as a couple in a small group setting with 3 other couples- after we were married. At the beginning, there were a lot of things that were similar to what we had gone through in pre-marital counseling, but it did get into new territory quickly. I was surprised about the lack of biblical basis in the book however. There was a lot of helpful information in here that we wished we had known before we got married- I was constantly saying "that is so true, we could have avoided some conflicts if we were aware of this before" such as with "unspoken rules"-that's a big one!! This book is highly recommended to anyone (along with the workbook!)- whether you are single, just started dating, engaged, or even already married. It really changed our marriage and made us a better couple at a time we really needed it.

This book has a lot of great common-sense tips for keeping a marriage healthy, mainly revolving around communication and keeping your expectations reasonable. However, they lost me when they brought God into it in the last chapter, which disappointed me, because there wasn't a huge religious tinge to most of the book.

Still a good read, regardless of your personal religious beliefs

Our pastor assigned my husband and I this book and the workbooks as our homework for pre-marital counseling. It went through a lot of details and situations married couples face. It helped us to have really good conversations.
