I have never read Scottoline before and I now know why. This was selected for our book club so I felt an obligation to read it. The book's beginning has some promise but then goes downhill and becomes downright outlandish when Rose (the main character) drops her kids off with friends and turns into super hero/Nancy Drew uncovering a conspiracy, cover-up and solving a murder. I thought this book was completely farfetched and unrealistic and the trivial conversation was annoying. Scottoline should have stuck with her original plot - the explosion, its aftermath, and the effects on the community.

Really disappointed in this book as I generally love Lisa Scottoline's books....just seemed to be all over the place & found it frustrating at some points to enjoy this book!

what a disappointment--the first 2/3 just kept dragging on and on and on and I felt at times like I was reading a See Jane Run book, the dialogue was almost sickening between the mother/daughter--the last 1/3 of the book is when the real story finally unfolds and by that time I was so bored I just skipped through got the info I needed and finished it to get it out of the way--very disappointed with this one.

Brilliant story line, however, that is what makes the very poor execution so disappointing. The story is filled with conflicting details and flat, stereotypical characters.

A lot of this book I found to be unrealistic. It was ok, I listened to it on CD...if I was reading it, I would probably have given up.

This writing seemed poor for someone who has written multiple books. It's definitely not as good a read as her last stand-alone, Look Again.

A novel packed with excitement and emotion. Fast paced. If you are a parent it's a story that will make you stop and & ask yourself how far would you go to save your child before another. This is a story about a mom who volunteered as a lunch room mom, children who bully others & a fire. Mom is accused of saving her child while sacrificing another. Then facing the after effects of what can happen when you are in charge of children in a setting such as this. It has many unexpected twists and turns & a lot of suspense. I flew thru the pages.
