The Hometown hero returns...and for Sarah Clay that was the bad news-because Max Scalise had rejected her outright seven years ago. And now Max was back in Weaver, working as a sheriff and everywhere she turned. His slightest touch still caused her traitorous body to quake, but Sarah knew better. Didn't she?
When it came to Sarah, max was as much in love with her as ever. But he'd returned home to find that eyes that had once gazed at him with such trust now turned away. Still, he was a wiser man now...a man determined to win back her love. Even if it meant telling secrets that weren't his to reveal....

Sarah Clay can't forget how Max Scalise rejected her 7 years ago... the pain, the loss, the heartache. And yet he's back in Weaver helping her uncle, the Sheriff, keep the law so she must fight to keep her heart safe. Max has always felt like he must be above reproach so as not to be labeled by his Dad's actions. But he can't resist the one thing he knows he won't ever be worthy of, Sarah's love.
This was a great story from start to finish... with a little bit of intrigue, some comic mix-up, an engaging child (or 2), sweetly tender passion and primary characters with such amazing depth and honor! Now I'm hooked on this "Return to the Double C Ranch" series and can't wait for the next cousin's story... I think Angeline is next.
