This book had some suspense (even some mob action)tied in it which was different than Beverly Lewis's other books. This book was authored by her and her husband, David Lewis. This is not part of a series, however it would be interesting to learn more about the characters in the book. If only witnessing were this easy in real life though.

This one's different in tone from other Beverly Lewis books I've read and I wondered if I'd enjoy it. Turns out I did. The end has a couple of interesting twists and I'd love to see this one become the start of a series featuring Mellie and Ryan... though I don't think it was written with that in mind.

Excellent Lewis book with a different twist. Haven't read a suspense by her before, but thoroughly enjoyed this one written with her husband. Nice change.

From the remarkable writing team of bestselling author Beverly Lewis and her husband David.
For fear-ridden Melissa James, the roadside billboard offers the first shred of hope. Desperate for a place "where time stands still," Melissa finds safe haven amid rolling hills of idyllic Amish countryside and quaint clapboard farmhouses. It is there that she forms an unlikely alliance with a young Plain woman whose unwavering faith provides Melissa a glimpse of peace she has never known. But even here, she cannot hide. Ryan James had it all-a beautiful wife, a lucrative investment firm, a bright future. Then his beloved Melissa disappears, leaving him both baffled and frantic. Until that day, Ryan had embraced society's blase view of good and evil. Now, as he unravels the mystery that haunts his wife, he is faced with a depravity he cannot explain away, one that may cost him everything.

This story is a mystery/thriller. Melissa is a young 'English" girl, not Amish. HER life is a thriller story. The story begins with her happily married to Ryan a young, very wealthy financial manager. After living a crazy life, her parents died young, and the Mafia on her tail. She thinks that has found some peace as Ryan's wife. She still is always looking over her shoulder for the Mafia.Little does she know how much they know and are connected to her. This thriller plays out until the last page. Melissa disappears into the Amish. Mennonite world and becomes a Christian. She learns that few people can be trusted, but that you can always trust God. Will it ever be safe to go back to her husband Ryan?

Beautiful gift book.

I read alot of Amish themed books. I have read about 20 books that Beverly Lewis has wrote. I always enjoy them. This one was alittle different. I gave it 5 stars.

I've enjoyed all the books that I've read by these authors and this one is not an exception. I was very much looking forward to reading Sanctuary and was not disappointed. This is a very intriguing story. The characters are interesting and true to themselves. The secondary characters add depth and complexity to the storyline, which I really appreciate. The Christian aspect and themes give this novel everything I appreciate in a good fiction book. Sanctuary can easily be read as a standalone book.

Co-written with her husband David, this book is a bit different from the other Beverly Lewis books that I've read. Rather than the focus being on the lives of the Amish, the focus of this book is a young "fancy" woman named Melissa who has to run away from home to save her life from the man who killed her father years ago. She rents a room from Lela, a Mennonite woman who comes her friend and confidant. Melissa's husband Ryan is desperate to find her and figure out why she ran away, and his visiting friend Denny helps uncover some of the clues. Both Denny and Lela are catalysts to the religious journey that Ryan and Melissa take.

This was an interesting read. While reading it, I definitely wanted to know what Melissa's true identity was and what really happened to her father years ago. This story does rely on flashbacks to lead us to clues, rather that telling everything in a completely linear fashion. That made for a fun journey for the reader. Unlike Beverly Lewis's other books, this one felt very preachy. In her Amish books, you get a sense of religious peace from the characters in a less blatant way. Through the characters of Lela and Denny (more from Denny than Lela in my opinion), you feel like religion is being shoved at you instead of through actions and deeds in her other books. This bothered me because it felt forced in this book, rather than a natural way of life in her other books. All-in-all though, it was a pretty decent book.

PS- I forgot to mention, I have NO IDEA why this book is listed as the third book in the Crossroads series because it has NOTHING to do with that series. None of the characters, locations, or events are the same. PBS isn't the only place that says this is the 3rd book, so I'm very confused by that because that's why I picked this book up in the first place, to continue that series.

Awesome book. Once again, Beverly and David Lewis have done a wonderful job of conveying the beautiful, simple life of the Plain Folk in modern day life. LOVED IT! It was also a neat blend of the reality of the Spiritual world very much a part of reality.
