Fantastic English mystery. It succeeds both as a nuts-and-bolts procedural and as a portrayal of an English village. Spencer conjures a great sense of menace in the troubled village, and her epilogue is a REAL stunner. I gave it 5 stars and can't wait to read the rest of the Chief Inspector Woodend series.
