Last year, Barb sent me a bunch of different kinds of salts to try.  It was a revelation to see that there was a lot more than just plain iodized Mortons and sea salt.  I promised I would do a whole blog post on it, and here it is -

I miss my exotic salts :(  A low sodium diet really sucks for a saltaholic like me but I guess it's better than looking like the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka, lol. I've gotten used to it in general but every once in awhile I think - man this would be better with some Hawaiian black salt on it. I would encourage everyone to play with your salt, you will be surprised how much flavor it can have.

I gave up "regular" salt years ago in favor of garlic pepper/salt. There aren't a lot of salt choices where I live so I may have to try some of those out.

 

Edit: That's alot of salts! Smoked Sand sounds up my alley.

I just returned from a trip to St. Augustine FL, while there I fell into a spice store (not literally!) and found some wonderful salts. (and seasonings)   I ended up buying some black lava salt -which is nice and crunchy and it seems like you need so much less than regular -and some seasoned salts, black truffle and also a chipolte one.  My question to salt people is I was really taken with the himalayan grater stone.  It's a giant rock of salt that you use a fine grater with.  Here    Has anyone ever used or owned one?  Is it just a gimmick or should I put it on my christmas list?  I also have heard about the salt slabs you cook on.  Does anyone know anything about those?  Here

Early in 2013, I had to spend a few days in a hospital.  It was run by Seventh Day Adventists, and while smoking was totally banned throughout the place (for which I was appreciative), the way that the food trays arrived, with only little packets of Mrs. Dash, when some of us WANTED a sprinkle of salt, please, was not so nice . . . .
