Right from the beginning --THIS BOOK SUCKED ME IN!!! I have never ever read a book like this before. I loved it. If you are at all interesed in gangs of Italians, Irish, English and more in the early 1900's in New York, this is the book you have to read. I was so consumed with the language and the way of life i had a hard time putting this down. So interesting. How Lena Horn became a singer, famous fighters in the ring, The Cotton Club, Mae West ( did you know she spent some time in prison) Capone, Sullivan and many more. Elections fixed, how it was done and how gangs took care of business. Years of "Dames" and "Screws" "Dusters", so much i never really knew about. Novel was so well worth my time. A time that might have been fun to live in.
