What would happen if the United States shut down? The phones don't work, banks have shut down, no gas for transportation. That is exactly what is happening in this book.

Radley is trying to get home to Vermont after spending time volunteering in Haiti. She arrives in the States to a very different government system. The president has been assassinated and nothing is working. Unable to contact her parents and unable to use her credit card, Radley sets out on foot toward home. What will she find when she gets there? And is there any reason for her to stay?

Finding no answers at home, she sets out for the only safe place she has heard about, Canada. This book follows her journey about self and survival. She finds a friend in the most unlikely place. When the truth comes out, Radley must reexamine her life and has to do what is most important for her.

While I did like this book, I did not like the writing style. It dragged in parts where it did not need to. I really enjoyed the black and white pictures throughout the book. It gave more to the story. Hopefully you will enjoy reading it!

The United States shuts down and Radley, just home from helping out at Haiti, tries to get home. But with no gas, banks, phones and etc, it makes it a bit tricky. So she decides to walk and in doing so, she is able to come to terms with a few things. She realizes that she took some things for granted. When she finally does make it home, no one is there.

She knows that the police are expecting papers when you cross state lines, so she decides she'll go to Canada and hopefully dodge them along the way. She learns to become invisible, eating out of dumpsters and staying hidden in the woods, when she can. She eventually does run into someone, another girl and her dog. The three of them make a home of sorts in the woods, just trying to survive, until she can make it to Canada and to her parents.

Safekeeping isn't a dystopian book, it's a story on survival. I quite enjoyed listening to this book and it's really not that long. Just over four hours, over before I knew it because I was really intrigued in Radley's story. I didn't expect the surprise ending, but I loved it. I thought Radley was a well developed character and the story line was fresh and interesting.

4.2 out of 5 stars. I really liked the photography in this book some of the pictures didn't match up to what or where Radley was on her journey but they were still interesting to see. I liked the story line a lot. There are parts that weren't as fast paced as others but I enjoy books like this.
