If you've enjoyed other novels of Naomi Regan, you'll love this one. Its much like Sotah, another novel of the author's, in which the main character faces a struggle that marks her as distinct and separate in the community and then faces a crisis of faith and has to learn how to reconcile herself with the Orthodox Jewish community to which she belongs. This one draws you in and doesn't let you go. You get to the middle of the novel, think it'd be over with that, but the second half is just as compelling as the first part. While some of the secondary characters could have been stronger, the main character Tamar is strong and leaves you hoping she can get through it. I'd definitely recommend it, though some basic knowledge of Judaism or ability to research that is needed.

This is a fascinating novel about a young, married woman who is part of an orthodox Jewish community in NY. Early in the story she is raped, soon after has relations with her husband, and then is pregnant-with no knowledge of who fathered the child.
