Such a great story about two people in love at a young age (college) from different worlds and not able to make the commitment but will be driven back towards each other after many years and several marriages. Well written plot with intrigue, greed and envy to spice it up.
I totally enjoyed this book. It looks daunting (over 600 pages!) but once I started reading it, I could not put it down. It's a great saga with wonderful character development, romance, suspense, everything! Starts in the present and then flashes back 12 years. You can't wait to find out how the present and past intersect, and the story unfolds at just the right pace - not too slow and not too fast.
"Judith Michael" always puts out a good book, and this is no exception. It is essentially the story of three women and one man, and how one of the women affects and changes the lives of the others. The first part of the book is spent disliking Sybille, as the story moves from the scene of a plane crash back through the lives of Sybill and Valerie, and Nick. A wonderful read, richly detailed and with justice prevailing at the end. Also, it's a good story of love that endures. Mine was a 632-page book, with small print, and I had trouble putting it down!
This plodding riches-to-rags and rags-to-riches tale is likely to disappoint fans of Michael's glittering bestseller Inheritance . Privileged and beautiful Valerie Sterling arrives at Stanford, and ignores fellow student Sybille, daughter of her mother's dressmaker, to dabble in acting and dally with Nick, an impoverished student who loves her. Two bad marriages later, Valerie loses a cheating husband and a fortune in a mysterious plane crash, but finds her courage. Sybille, meantime, marries and divorces Nick, then scrambles to the top of the heap in network news. Her envy and hatred of Valerie snowball when Valerie becomes an investigative reporter at the cable network Nick owns and digs up dirt on a televangelist show Sybille has launched. A one-dimensional cast brings little sparkle to the predictable plot. Only in the final quarter is there excitement enough to carry the heavily padded prose to a spirited conclusion. Wow, what a story. There is so much going on, you think, boy I must be to the end, and you're not. Nick, Valarie and Sybille are quite a trio. It's amazing how the authors intertwined their lives for 15 or so years, and the things they've done.... you'll have to read it to find out!
