This is an entertaining series and well worth the read but the authors Dragon Prince series was better.

At 830+ pages, this is the type of book most Fantasy lovers can sink their teeth into. The major characters are not formulaic because in many ways they are like most of us; flawed. This is not a critique of the writing which I enjoyed immensely. I just mean that the characters have depth, the world created is interesting and different with many layers to discover. A very fine read. I'll be looking for Books 2 and 3 in this Trilogy!!

A little long-winded for me - but not too bad. Your typical female fantasy. First in a series.

I started this book and even though it was moving slowly, tried to stick with it. Then I found out that Ms. Rawn may never write the third and final book in the trilogy and decided I wasn't going to waste my time on something that may never have a resolution. I put it down.
Once ravaged by wars between rival factions of mages, the land of Lenfell now strives to maintain peace through the careful restriction of magic. A conspiracy, however, born of the political aspirations of the now-exiled mage-born Lords of Malerris, threatens to plunge the world into chaos once again. Against this background, the author of the popular "Dragon Prince" and "Dragon Star" trilogies begins a new epic adventure that focuses on the destinies of three sisters of unlimited power. Rawn's talent for lush descriptions and complex characterizations provides a broad range of drama, intrigue, romance, and adventure. Her depiction of Lenfell's unique matriarchal society adds further texture to this densely woven fantasy tapestry.
